EIT Climate-KIC, a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) that works to accelerate the transition to a carbon-zero and climate-resilient society, funded a video game - Change Game- that develops climate awareness among players.
Developed by the CMCC Foundation, an Italian research center dedicated to climate change, it puts players in control of the world's destiny, confronting them with the complexity of climate change and how they interact with society and natural ecosystems, having to decide how use the resources available to advance civilisation, while managing the consequences of their decisions.
Eleonora Cogo, Scientific Manager of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), clarifies that the “Change Game allows people to learn, while playing, about many aspects of climate change, even if they are not very familiar with its impacts or with strategies to reduce emissions.
Players manage the production and consumption of energy, water, and food, while dealing with natural disasters. They also have the opportunity to adopt innovative solutions, to explore the technologies of the future, to influence people's behaviour when interacting with nearby cities and to face scenarios that we have already observed in the real world ”.
Available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, Change Game aims to use the potential of video games to process climate-related information in a fun, educational and interactive way, aiming to increase climate literacy among children (from 12 years old) and young adults.
