Food4Sustainability CoLAB is launching a new webinar cycle "You are what you eat" in September! Nacional and international speakers with a wide range of experience in food and nutrition will provide guidance on how to use our diet behaviour in benefit for our health. You can pre-register and get more information about these webinars on Food4Sustainability Academy website.
There is an increased awareness about food and what are the real impacts of the major diet behaviour changes that have been happening in the last decades. At some point in evolution, the modern consumer traded traditional and healthy food for ready-to-eat meals and all-year-round available fruit and vegetables, losing the sense of what is genuine local food, and what should be available at a certain time of the year.
“The food is our best medicine”. An effective management of diet and food intake, together with nutrition information, are fundamental to a good health, since smart and conscious food choices can help prevent several diseases, or even help to cope more successfully with a current illness.
But what is food and nutrition? This alliance seems to be the right path to achieve a healthy diet, and consequently, a healthier life. The right foods (associated with rich nutrition) are the way we get energy for our daily routines. It is not a surprise that a healthy diet must include a lot of natural foods, and not highly processed ones, with high levels of sodium or sugar.
According to 21st-century trends, the food industry must provide products that should combine health, convenience, and pleasure. Functional food appears as a possible solution for this threefold challenge. The concept originated in Japan in the 1980s and states that the functional food is a product that should provide an additional beneficial effect on health, in addition to their basic nutritional function. Functional foods cover a variety of foods: minimally processed, whole foods along with fortified, enriched or enhanced foods, can all be functional foods.
A healthful diet style, which includes a variety of foods from each food group, prepared in a healthful way, can help you meet your nutrient needs and reduce your risk for various chronic diseases.
This new cycle of webinars offers you a roadmap to learn more about what a functional food nutrition can do for you.
Every Thursday, from September 16 to October 14, always at 4:00pm - 5:30pm Lisbon time (5:00 - 6:30 hours CET).
